Whitney Museum, New York

The project transforms the building into a unit, an element, a nucleus, and lends it a direction towards Madison Avenue.
The overall granite facing, homogeneous, extending out and over towards Madison Avenue, reaching down into the sunken garden with openings which grow out of the surface, with the modulation of the Madison Avenue gap between it and neighboring buildings, with the granite parapet along the sidewalk and with the structural concrete form of the bridge - all this is to form the building as a sculpture.
Marcel Breuer Comments on the Presentation of the Whitney Museum Project, November 12, 1963

"Architectural photography can involve a lot of waiting; the building becomes a kind of sundial, while you wait for a shadow to crawl away from a detail you want, or for the mass and balance of the structure to reveal itself in a certain way..."

William Gibson "The Gernsback Continuum in Burning Chrome"

"Architecture only exists as it displaces itself"

Peter Eisenman

"Architecture should deal in allusion and simbolism"

Robert Venturi

"A photograph is a secret
about a secret.
The more it tells you
the less you know."

Diane Arbus
